Working in eCommerce at GoCompare means developing and building products and services that really help our customers and disrupt our sector.

The Head of Innovation at GoCompare is responsible for leading our organisation through the process of turning insights and opportunities into new propositions and products for our customers.    You will lead a multi-disciplinary team, pulling together experts from around our business to solve customer problems in genuinely innovative ways.  You will have responsibility for helping us grow beyond where we are today, diversifying what we offer and growing our reach within our sector.

Skills and experience you’ll need to have

  • You’ll be able to talk passionately about the teams you have led and the ideas you’ve tested and grown into successful products with measurable customer and business impact.  You know why you succeeded when you did, and why you didn’t when you didn’t.
  • You know that great products start with great research and you have experience weaving research into your test and learn approach.  Customers are at the heart of your thinking and you’re creative about how you get them closely involved throughout your process.
  • But you also understand that successful products are commercially successful and you are conversant in the language and mechanics of business.  You have seen the impact of innovation and you can clearly articulate it’s value around the business. 
  • You are used to leading a team of specialists and experts through an innovation process, keeping everyone on board and ensuring that the right points of view are taken into account at the right times.  You’re good at finding ways to keep people feeling included and valued, even when at the end of the day, the customer gets the final say. 
  • Most importantly you deliver – you are good at striking a pragmatic balance between nirvana and what is actually achievable.  You have a history of leading technical, product and design teams from concept to successful launch.
  • You’re curious about how industries change and the opportunities that opens up for companies to evolve what they’re doing.  You’re constantly hypothesizing about different approaches we might take, but you use data and careful research to help you to work out where to start and test.
  • Above all else you’re a team player – you understand the range of experience and skills it takes to build great products and you’re brilliant at working with people across the whole organisation.

What you’ll be responsible for

  • Leads and runs the GoCompare innovation function.
  • Develops all working practices for the function ensuring that they are widely understood by the rest of the organisation.
  • Ongoing involvement and input into wider business strategy and alignment with our overall goals and direction.
  • Works with wider business to identify, prioritise and size opportunity areas for exploration.
  • Uses customer research to understand motivators and create innovation framework that will result in a regular stream of innovations being delivered to our customers.
  • Develops proposition concepts for testing and refinement.
  • Designs light weight, low effort experiments to quickly validate customer interest.
  • Uses a wide range of testing methodologies to confirm initial results at scale.
  • Uses lean methodologies to build from original concept to full proposition.
  • Models opportunities to enable full visibility on expected ROI and to facilitate decision making and prioritisation.
  • Works with wider organisation to design long-term solutions and agree an acceptable development path from early tests to full operation.
  • Manages any third parties who need to be engaged in the process e.g. to support customer research or as innovation consultants.
  • Engages wider organisation in every aspect of project to ensure good design and long-term buy in.
  • Runs customer research and testing sessions to refine open points, confirm customer appetite and bring confidence in approach.
  • Based on requirements, gathers and builds a squad of designers, product managers, engineers and testers to operationalise concepts and prepare them for launch.
  • Launches concepts to market, working with digital and brand marketing teams to define customer messaging and launch plans.
  • Oversees launch success, refining approach through A/B and MVT testing.
  • Handover of stable proposition/product to optimisation teams across the business.
  • Regular reporting on progress.

You will work with the entire GoCompare business where necessary to identify and implement opportunities for future growth and evolution of GoCompare's products.
