You’ll be pleased to know that GoCo Group have an exciting Head of Tech opportunity for an experienced and high performing technology expert to undertake a pivotal role in our AutoSave business, becoming integral to the growth of a strategic arm of GoCo group.

GoCo Group are market leading in the Auto-savings space, allowing us to deliver on our mission of helping customers save time and money with their energy bills.  We’re continuing to grow all of our retail energy teams and the success of our Auto-Savings services relies on the technological influence we have in place.

You will have a deep knowledge of the inner workings of a fast paced and agile engineering community and understand what it takes to get commercial goals into production. You will be working with multi skilled teams across Product, Infrastructure, Engineering and DevOps, to enable the cogs the turn within the tech landscape and architecture, and make commercial strategy become a reality.

You will be well versed in understanding the correlation required between multiple tech stacks that will exist within a group level business, and enable continuous evolution and innovation through discovery of pain points, research into solutions, implementation of proof of concepts and ensuring the adoption of these.

Our Engineers at GoCompare work as part of multi-functional teams, with a clear vision and goal through use of product roadmaps; as Principal Software Engineer you will provide technical leadership and mentoring across the engineering community, acting as an exemplar of best practice. 

Skills and experience you’ll need to have

You will act as an enabler for strategic direction, architectural thought leadership, technical roadmap, and rapid delivery of high quality, consumer-focused services that exceed expectations. 

Type of experience required in this role will include having:

  • Demonstrable history of designing and implementing API products that have scaled to meet with growing customer, partner and business needs.
  • Experience defining technology strategy, architectural design, and vision.
  • Experience leading and delivering through others, especially through remote/distributed teams and contractors.
  • Capability of at least two modern programming languages such as C#, PHP, Scala, Java, JavaScript, .net, etc.
  • OO/FP design and development skills (SOLID, DRY, patterns, etc.).
  • Ability to assess cross functional and technical risks to delivery, and proactive problem solving.
  • Understanding of web/software performance with ability to guide teams to reach objectives.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, deadline-driven, complex, agile environments.
  • Deep understanding and practical application of agile and scrum, and how to iteratively deliver solutions.
  • Strong commercial understanding, and value drivers from a customer and business perspective.

You will ideally be someone that:

  • Is excited by the opportunity to innovate, not frightened by the unknown and ambiguous, a creative thinker and idea generator. 
  • Has a strong ability to juggle and prioritise multiple projects and deadlines with ease and comfort while consistently maintaining a professional demeanour.
  • For bonus points, will have experience designing financial services and/or energy sector technical solutions in a regulated industry.

 

What you’ll be responsible for

The role will require you to lead key business initiatives that span multiple delivery areas. You will facilitate technical discussions across the department and drive the sharing of best practise and learning throughout the business. It’s an extremely exciting role within the GoCo family where you can explore new opportunities opened up by our new technology innovations.

The role will cover:

  • Defining and designing technology solutions in line with the Group architecture.
  • Compiling service documentation.
  • Presenting and delivering demos of technical features and concepts to technical and non-technical business partners.
  • Investigating data sources, both internal and external.
  • Understanding the platform and organisational dependencies.
  • Acting as the SME on all things AutoSave technology.
  • Collaborating with partner engineering teams.
  • Building developer tools, client libraries, and reference integrations to continuously improve the developer experience.
  • Providing feedback on API design, platform consistency, and functionality.
  • Advocating for the needs of our partner developer community; bringing their feedback back to the implementation team.
