Team Coach (Scrum Master)

The job in a nutshell

GoCo Group require a Team Coach in our London office to be a catalyst for continuous improvement within a cross functional tech engineering team. You will work with a well-established squad and in tandem with Product and Delivery to build a high performing culture and protect the tech environment and teams enabling them to work at their best whilst acting as an organisational heat shield. This role would be suitable for an experienced SCRUM Master or for someone who is slightly less experienced in terms of projects and has an experimental mind-set.

You will be responsible for coaching the teams towards viable solutions and facilitating creative license for them to apply this knowledge within project delivery and stakeholder engagement. Our Team Coach are there to work with the tech community and be a guiding light for establishing order of magnitude, SCRUM framework, effective stand up meetings and software development practice.

This role would be traditional known as a SCRUM Master and will apply principles of SCRUM framework but will also involve other frameworks such as Kanban depending on the fit for purpose solution. The business environment is rather fluid in comparison to environments with a text book approach. You will have the freedom to take an imaginative and autonomous view to be experimental in your approach to how we get things done.

You will find interaction with a variation of stakeholders to be second nature and be able to effectively coach people towards solutions. The ability to spot what does and doesn’t work and instil knowledge to the teams of how to take stakeholders on the journey with them, moving away from estimates and uncertainty, will be a key skill for this role.

Skills and experience you’ll need to have

Educational background:

  • Educated to degree level and/or equivalent professional experience.
  • Desirable but not essential to be a Certified Scrum Master/Scrum Practitioner or Certified Agile Coach

Other skills inclusive of:

  • Knowledge and experience of applying Agile principles, approaches and behaviours.
  • Proven ability to help address the dysfunctions that may result from misinterpreting, ignoring or rejecting Agile values and principles.
  • Experience in coaching teams and individuals as a servant leader.
  • Knowledge of Lean, XP, Kanban and Scrum .
  • Experience of working with technical teams introducing practices such as CI/CD, TDD, BDD, Pairing, Mobbing.
  • A wide range of facilitation, training, coaching and mentoring tools and techniques.
  • Knowledge and experience with complexity and queuing theory, psychology and other related sciences.
  • Strength in at least one of the following areas: Business Transformation / Product Innovation / Software Development.

  • Works with teams to help them make progress on their improvement journeys.
  • Coaches Engineering squads in self-organisation and cross-functionality.
  • Supports the efficient flow of work through teams by helping them remove obstacles and make improvements.
  • Supports Lean and Agile thinking as the norm and helps to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Cultivates trust through improving personal and inter-team relationships.
  • Facilitates team events when needed.
  • Educates teams to monitor flow and raising awareness of relevant metrics.
  • Understands and teaches teams the value of visual management and big visual boards.
  • Encourages a culture of openness and transparency.
  • Is proactive in coaching others and knowledge sharing within the organisation.
  • Creates training materials and delivers training sessions on Agile topic areas.
  • Facilitates events such as impact mapping and story mapping as required by teams in Tech and the wider business.

  • Tech Management team - to ensure all working towards one vision.
