Senior 3rd Line Infrastructure Engineer

The job in a nutshell

Interested in working within a collaborative tech team that supports infrastructure for multiple businesses across GoCompare Group? Are you a hybrid between delivering cloud services, owning end to end project delivery and service improvements?

GoCompare require an experienced 3rd Line Infrastructure Engineer to be a key escalation point for our group tech infrastructure and to ensure the successful delivery of quarterly and half yearly road maps for continual improvement and enhancement of fit for purpose tech services.

You will be instrumental in bringing legacy tools and systems into the new world of GoCo tech, ensuring a seamless integration of wider group businesses and creating a standard suite of services across platforms. 

You will take ownership of 365 platforms, compellant SAN replacements, upgrading VMware, service improvement and cutting edge future projects in areas such as SD-WAN, as well as other networking and general tech.

The newly formed 1Tech organisation requires this individual to take a hollistic approach to team cohesion and you will have accountability for shaping an effective relationship between 2nd and 3rd line infrastructure teams with an appetite to mentor others and improve ways of working.  

GoCaompre is a Microsoft house with an established Azure environment and knowledge of cloud services, PaaS, Cloud security is essential to the role. 

You will have a natural flare for communication with multiple business stakeholders up to exec level and be able to liaise appropriately to managing multiple issues and projects at any one time. 

Skills and experience you’ll need to have

  • Microsoft qualifications in Windows Server and Active Directory.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience in IT technical support role.
  • Excellent knowledge of enterprise hardware and software processes, virtual hardware and software technologies.
  • Solid knowledge of web-based technologies.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and analysis skills.
  • Previous experience in a technical support role in a web-based or financial services company.
  • Solid understanding of ITIL processes and experience in applying Incident, Problem and Change Management to a technical support role.
  • Solid understanding and experience of implementing/maintaining network/ security technologies from an end-user perspective.
  • Experience in and solid knowledge of infrastructure security requirements including; OS/Software patch management, application deployment requirements and toolsets using regular patching and reporting.
  • Support experience of hosting within Cloud provider.

What you’ll be responsible for

  • Acts as functional escalation point for Corporate IT infrastructure incidents and requests from wider 1Tech team, carrying out advanced administration duties across relevant infrastructure technologies.
  • Ensures ongoing stability and performance of service OS (and other), whilst supporting the deployment of necessary security patches and compliance reporting.
  • Proactively identifies, troubleshoots, researches and documents faults/errors and implements proposed fixes.
  • Maintains monitoring and alerting systems, including demonstrating continual service improvement by remediating any monitoring/alerting gaps proactively.
  • Ensures Datacentre, structured cabling and end-user services are maintained to best practice levels.
  • Acts as SME on all Corporate IT infrastructure requirements for engineering and business initiatives.
  • Owns, supports and monitors the organisation’s infrastructure and performs preventative maintenance work to ensure operational effectiveness and stability of the technical environment is maintained.
  • Assists in designing and documenting Corporate IT infrastructure processes, procedures and standards and maintains or prepares system and software documentation.

Who you’ll be working with

  • Works closely with all members of 1Tech to ensure stability of the operational environment.
  • Manages relationships with partners and 3rd party suppliers to deliver effective IT services to the business.
  • Collaborates with other 1Tech colleagues on support, development and project work where directed.
  • Works with all areas within 1Tech to support respective roadmaps, ensuring allocated quarterly initiatives are delivered to time, quality and budget.
