2nd Line Tech Engineer

Are you experienced in providing effective 2nd line support across a multitude of issues including desktop, Office 365, networking and cabling? Are you interested in the prospect of being able to work autonomously and implement better ways of working which will increase the effectiveness of business teams through tech support?

GoCo Group are looking for an experienced 2nd Line Tech Engineer to assist our Energylinx business in Alloa, Scotland and become a key point of contact for localised and group level 2nd line support. You will be instrumental in helping end users to understand the journey of transition to higher security management and better ways of working.

You will deal with more complex requests not handled by tech support and create a more independent and localised approach in the Scotland office to dealing with 2nd line support requests with regards to building, packaging and deploying tech support. You will own the process within the local end user estate and work to improve and simplify processes at a local level. 

Your experience will include Windows 10 desktop support, basic understanding of networking including IP and DHCP, Office 365, Skype teams, antivirus, end point protection and telephony to support a local contact centre team.

Reporting into the 2nd Line Corprate Tech Team Leader, you will also have oversight of group level issues and become involved when required with UK wide support as part of a virtual team. Other desirable skills which could enhance project involvement include improving MAC management platforms with proven MAC OS experience.

Skills and experience you’ll need to have

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience in IT technical support role.
  • Microsoft qualifications in Mac/Windows Device Management, Azure Active Directory or Deployment tools.
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise hardware and software processes, virtual hardware and software technologies.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analysis skills.
  • Experience in a technical support role in a web-based or financial services company.
  • Solid understanding of ITIL processes and experience in applying Incident, Problem and Change Management to a technical support role.
  • Solid understanding and experience of implementing/maintaining network/ security technologies from an end-user perspective.
  • Experience in and solid knowledge of IT security requirements including; device OS/Software patch management, application deployment requirements and toolsets using regular patching and reporting.

What you’ll be responsible for

  • Acts as functional escalation point for Corporate IT infrastructure incidents and requests from wider 1Tech team, carrying out end-user service administration duties across relevant Corporate IT technologies.
  • Ensures ongoing stability and performance of service OS (and other), whilst supporting the deployment of necessary security patches and compliance reporting.
  • Proactively identifies, troubleshoots, researches and documents faults/errors and implements proposed fixes.
  • Maintains monitoring and alerting systems, including demonstrating continual service improvement by remediating any monitoring/alerting gaps proactively.
  • Ensures Datacentre, structured cabling and end-user services are maintained to best practice levels.
  • Supports and monitors the GoCompare Group Corporate IT end-user service and performs preventative maintenance work to ensure operational effectiveness and stability of the technical environment is maintained.
  • Assists in designing and documenting infrastructure processes, procedures and standard and maintains or prepares system and software documentation.

Who you’ll be working with

  • Works closely with all members of the 1Tech department to ensure stability of the operational environment.
  • Liaises with partners and 3rd party suppliers where required to deliver effective IT services to the business.
  • Collaborates with other 1Tech colleagues on support, development and project work where directed.
  • Works with all areas within 1Tech to support respective roadmaps, ensuring allocated quarterly initiatives are delivered to time, quality and budget.
