Infrastructure Engineer

The job in a nutshell

Are you an information security professional with a competent knowledge of infrastructure and 2nd/3rd line tech support? Are you able to recognise the value in creating and implementing a security culture and able to support end user communities and provide personal end user communication?

You will be responsible for instilling and creating a security culture on behalf of Energylinx (part of GoCompare Group) and acting as the go to tech support for any infrastructure related queries within the end user community. 

You will report into the Infrastructure Solution Manager and have reporting lines into the Chief Data Protection Officer covering a vast range of activities including data protection, security changes, GDPR, end user training, security and infrastructure policy, desktop support, device protection, role access and consultation.

You will have the opportunity to build upon what is currently a greenfield approach to infrastructure and security and implement workable solutions as you see fit.

Skills and experience you’ll need to have

  • Microsoft qualifications in Windows Server and Active Directory.
  • Educated to degree level and/or equivalent experience in IT technical support role.
  • Knowledge of the typical IT security and compliance requirements, such as (but not limited to) DLP, AV, GDPR and end-user security.
  • Knowledge of enterprise hardware and software processes, virtual hardware and software technologies.
  • Good knowledge of web-based technologies.
  • Experience with troubleshooting with good analysis skills.
  • Experience in a technical support role.
  • Good understanding of ITIL processes and experience in applying Incident, Problem and Change Management to a technical support role.
  • Basic understanding of implementing/maintaining network/ security technologies from an end-user perspective.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure security requirements including; OS/Software patch management, application deployment requirements and toolsets using regular patching and reporting.
  • Experience of working within ISO27001 framework.
  • Knowledge of Security Information Event Management ( SIEM ) Systems.

What you’ll be responsible for

  • Acts as functional escalation point and triage for local desktop, infrastructure and security incidents and requests from wider Tech team, undertaking basic administration duties across all relevant infrastructure technologies.
  • Deploys and maintains device OS (and other software) patches following monthly patching cycle.
  • Troubleshoots, researches and documents fault diagnosis and fixes, as required.
  • Troubleshoots, researches and documents security breaches and fixes, as required.
  • Monitors alerting systems, raising and escalating issues/incidents where required.
  • Owns moves/additions/changes to ensure infrastructure systems are proactively and effectively maintained.
  • Ensure local datacentre, structured cabling and end-user services are maintained to best practice levels.

Who you’ll be working with

  • Works closely with all members of the IT department to ensure stability of the operational environment.
  • Collaborates with other Tech and Data Engineering colleagues on support, development and project work where directed.
  • Works with Information Security team to ensure shared understanding of security and compliance expectations..
  • Works with the Information Security team to assist in promoting security best practice across the business.
